Khamoshi (1996)
Cast: Nana Patekar, Salman Khan, Manisha Koirala, Seema Biswas, Helen
Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Annie's (Manisha) parents Joseph (Nana Patekar) and Flavy (Seema Biswas) are deaf and mute. They love Annie, but tend to suffocate her dreams of becoming a singer.

When she grows up, she meets Raj (Salman Khan), a musician, who helps her achieve her goal.

There is a scene when Raj's parents meet Annie's, and at the dinning table, Patekar eats his food loudly.

Everyone stares at him, and Biswas takes him aside and screams at him. This, among many others, are marvellous sequences.

Bhansali, in his directorial debut, wanted Madhuri Dixit to play Annie's role.

Helen, who came out of retirement to play Annie's loving grandmother, accepted the role only because of her stepson, Salman Khan.
