The over Rs 50 lakh bid at the auction of a gold trophy at the Zee Cine Awards has come unstuck after the bidder, a 26-year-old Dubai-based Indian jeweller, failed to cough up the amount.

Rajesh hogged the limelight after bidding a whopping Dirhams 450,000 (Rs 54 lakh approx) for a 24-carat 50cm tall Zee Cine trophy that Salman Khan auctioned. The proceeds were to go to the St Anthony's Home for the Aged in Mumbai.

The organisers, who were caught in a bind after Rajesh backtracked, did not want to comment on the issue, the Gulf News reported.

Quoting relatives of Rajesh, the report said it was much later that it dawned on the young businessman that he would have to pay nearly half a million dirhams for the trophy. He acknowledged it was a mistake and returned the trophy.

"We are not rich enough to pay so much money. We are really embarrassed," Rajesh's brother said adding that his sibling, a diehard Bollywood fan, had gone alone for the awards ceremony in Dubai.
