Doesn't Amitabh care for his fans?

Prem Panicker | September 23, 2003 03:49 IST

Anuj Sharma: Read your article on Boom. Very well analysed article on an insipid, amateurish and pornographic flick.

However, you let them go a little easy. Though it is every filmmaker's right to make what she makes and every viewer's choice not to see it, there have to be some filters, which can separate trash from a bad movie. The need to do that here is even more because audiences will get lured due to the presence of a good cast. Imagine Amitabh with Jackie and Zeenat and even Bo!

Pray, what would have been Amitabh's motivation to act in a third-rate flick and do a role which can be better performed by perhaps Johnny Lever. If it is 'creative satisfaction', he's forgotten that he's got a legion of fans who'll come to theatres just because he's in it. That's unfair to fans and undeserved bonus for Mr Kaizad.

And what to say about Mr Kaizad, except for that he's shown the world a reflection of his own mind and thought, which is downright ugly, and even far from any form of realism. The movie reminded me of cartoon pondies that we find in the supermarkets of Tokyo. The only qualifications required to read these are a lack of intelligence and/or a lusty/sick mind.

Considering that the only 'performer' in the flick was the lesser-known less-glammed Seema Biswas, it should serve as a lesson to the likes of Mr Kaizad what sort of cast to choose. Especially when they want to give flight to their leery imagination and presumed 'realistic' issues.

Finally, 'Adults only' title can never be enough for such movies. At the cost of hurting the cause of freedom of expression of the directors, we need to have another filter which should say 'not to be screened in public'. Then Mr Kaizad can find private clubs/parties consisting of a homogenous group of 'cheer/leer the orals' people who can have their fun; not unlike the private fashion show conducted in the movie to recover the diamonds. ha!

Huny Garg/Mumbai: read ur review of boom -- in fact i had already seen it -- was mislead by other reviews which unduly said "interesting movie" to "worth a watch", saying "amitabh excels" and "different movie". HELL.

I just couldn't understand one thing -- how did all these good actors (male) agree to do such a downright cheap and obscene movie? and, secondly, what was kaizad gustad trying to tell us in the movie? what was the story? was there any story? worst thing is i bought the ticket in black on the second day and theatrewallahs had created the shortage whereas inside
the theatre wasn't full even on a saturday.

all in all, WORST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN.

RECOMMENDAION -- DON'T WASTE TIME AND MONEY ON THIS MOVIE.

Purvesh Khona: Saw the movie. Never imagined any Indian director can direct such "z-grade" movie. It's an insult to Indian intelligence for which we are now famous.

Editing sucks, dialogues suck, screenplay sucks, direction sucks, and as you said there is no story. At times I never figured out whether Jaaved's character was that of a joker (what stupid jokes!) or a schemer.

The "bimbos" are living up to the standard of "bimbos" in the initial half and sporadically show flashes of a little bit of brain -- surprise !!!!!

Even the names of the characters -- how much sick-minded can you get to come up with those names?

Amitabh might have flipped his mind or might have been drunk when he signed this stupid movie. At least he should have backed out halfway from this disaster. Kaante was much better than this.

This movie might still run for its "c-grade" sex appeal. I agree, it's nothing but soft porn with models not completely nude -- so as to pass the censors.

There are no words to describe such a flop. It's a waste of time and money.

Apurva Rastogi: Cannot agree more with you. I have never seen such a pathetic display in movie-making by anyone(definitely not from Kaizad Gustad).

Walked out in the first 1/2 hour of the movie... never seen a worse movie... believe me, even Khwahish (17 kisses movie) was better than this... at least I made it to the interval.

PLEASE POST THIS MESSAGE FOR EVERYONE...

DO NOT WATCH BOOM... it is definitely not worth it.

Ashutosh Garg: I want my money back!!@#$%#@%$%$%... Boom is one of the worst movies i have seen till now.

Ranjana Bannerjee/Calcutta: So much of media hype and this movie. I wish I had never watched this movie. It was shocking to see Amitabh Bachchan in such role. I am, like millions all over the world, an ardent fan of Mr Bachchan. Can't believe a dignified person like Mr Bachchan could accept such kind of role. Maybe he wanted to explore his acting talents. But please Mr Bachchan, not in these kind of roles. We all know your acting skill, we respect you. Don't disappoint us again, it is a sincere request from one of your fans. Shit! is the only word for the rest of the cast, barring Seema Biswas.

Manikandan Vishwanathan: Is this movie worth reviewing? From when did rediff start reviewing porn movies? Absolutely ridiculous movie.

V Rajesh: The latest Amitabh Bachchan flick, Boom, is an insult to entertainment and a colossal waste of time, energy, talent and money.

There was a time in the 1970s and 1980s when we found it hard to choose among the best films of Amitabh. All of them were so intense and appealing! A stage has now come where we find it difficult to choose among the worst films of Amitabh!  Ever since he made a comeback with Mrityudaata after his five-year exile, his bad films have clearly outnumbered the good ones, and what's more, some of them have been totally insensate and illogical! Aks, Hum Kissi Se Kam Nahi, Kaante, Boom are only a few from this (dis)honourable list.

It could be that Amitabh has reached such a stage in his career where hits or flops hardly matter to him, but he should spare a thought for his loyal fans like me who go to see all of his movies doling out a handsome ticket fare! We have absolutely no grudge in Amitabh experimenting with his roles and even coming in a negative avatar in his films. However, this certainly does not mean he should take up any bogus assignment that comes his way in the name of experimenting, which offer him roles that have no substance, meaning and potential. This is highly unbecoming on the part of a great actor like him.

Hardeep Malhotra: Frankly speaking, I don't have many more words than yours but just to say one line that "had they been planning a XX comedy of errors, would have been a smash hit (at least for the young junks and rickshaw-wallas, viewing their top stars creating filth)."

Narayana: In my life I have never ever seen such a stupid film and I feel myself bad when I see a superstar doing the stupid kind of role. Plz Mr Amitji, don't do such type of movies in future.

Shivramkumar: Seeing the corny trailers made me realise that Boom is a waste of time. This article just confirmed it. Thanks Prem I am not wasting my money on such pointless issue. I can only add one thing: seeing the trailers one got the feeling that Gustad was more interested in making a porn movie rather than one with some sense or story in it. Can anyone believe that if this film is like this, if it had been passed WITHOUT THE 18 CUTS incorporated, how the movie would have turned out? A real poo(r)n one (pun intended). Stay away, people.

Anu Sen-Sen: One of the worst movies ever seen. in fact it is kind of a cheat... as in it had the greatest promos and in the movie was nothing... As the movie started i started realising this movie is gonna be a big boom...

I consoled myself saying that at least the soundtrack would be there with "I see you baby". I waited all through the end... even watched all the names scroll by, but nothing. The song never came!

Is there any law under which I could sue them? Plz do let me know.

Ppl who are still interested in watching the movie, please switch to FTV. It is better, trust me.

Sushubh: Not as bad as Aks was. There were SOME funny moments! More: http://www.sushubh.com/b2/index.php?p=127&c=1

Prashanth: Yesterday i wasted my valuable 3 hours of life and 100 rupees when I saw BOOM. Can u say this is a film? even blue films are much better than this film. BACHCHAN and all co-stars should be punished for working in this film. GUSTAD KAIZAD SHOULD BE PUNISHED TO SEE THIS MOVIE 1,000 TIMES AT A STRETCH. IF U KNOW SOMEBODY FROM THE TEAM OF BOOM PLEASE KICK THEM ON MY BEHALF. I NEVER SAW SUCH A BAD FILM IN MY LIFE!

Richard Paul: I am one of the unfortunate persons to see the movie. In my opinion it was pathetic. Don't know why Big B agreed to act in such a junk movie.

Shraddanandh Desai: read your preview a bit late as I saw the movie yesterday (and wasted my time & money).

I wonder how the movie got certified by the censors. Some of the dialogues and most of the scenes (Jaaved Jaffrey caressing the revolver keeping it between his legs) were close to pornography. I don't understand why Amitabh is wasting his time and putting his reputation at risk doing a C-grade movie like this, whether he is still to recover from his debt problems from ABCL. As regards the others (Zeenat, Jaaved, Gulshan, Jackie), they seem to be impatient to grab some role as they were out of action for long (Jackie was very irritating in Devdas also).

In all, the movie is not worth seeing. I was thankful it lasted only two hours (including trailers of Zameen, Anaahat, etc and lot many advertisements).

Prem: Hoo boy, that is about as unanimous as it gets; time I'd think to leave this particular cinematic turkey alone, and move on? Tomorrow is another day, see you in here with another topic for your thoughts.
