British musician Sting made an appearance at the festival with his wife, producer Trudie Styler (Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels).

Iranian director Samira Makhmalbaf received the Jury Prize for her film Five In The Afternoon. She also won the 29th Prize of the Ecumenical Jury for her 'vision of the world which offers a poetical look at life and the future'. Incidentally, she had won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes for her film Blackboard in 2000.

The special mention Golden Camera award was given to Afghan director Sedigh Barmak's Osama.

Surprisingly, the hot favourite, Nicole Kidman-starrer Dogville, did not win any award.
