With the Tamil film Engey Enadhu Kavithai, director Arvind comes up with yet another story based on the friendship theme --- bad company corrupts and good company redeems.
Arvind takes a step further by making a friendship a love triangle. Kunal, who made his debut in Kaadhalar (the tale of a cyber romance opposite Sonali Bendre) faded after that film. Recently, however, his Punnagai Desam did well and in this film, he tries to cement that gain, playing the good friend.
Making his debut in this film is Krishna, son of music composer M S Viswnathan, who also joins the cast, playing the reel life father who is disappointed and hurt by his son. Shriman makes a guest appearance. The love interest is a debutante, Rathi. The film, meanwhile, ambles on in an amateurish way.
Debutante Ravishankar's Tamil film, Varushamellam Vasantham is a clean family drama.
Living in a village, grandfather Nambiar has two grandsons --- city lad Kunal, a computer science student who goes abroad and village boy Manoj, a school dropout. Naturally, Grandpa is biased against Manoj and taunts him continously.
A relative arrives from Kolkata at this house (played by yesteryear heroine Nalini) with her husband and daughter, Anita. As both the grandsons woo Anita, the city slick Kunal taunts Manoj. Manoj, of course, has his sidekick who comes up with ideas.
How does Manoj pursue the girl? Whom does she choose? Watch the film and find out.
It is surprising that even though Kunal meets his brother after nine years, they is no affection between them. They do not bother to catch up on each others' lives. Kunal mocks Manoj perpetually and tries to foil Manoj's attempts to win Anita. But then, since the story is about two bitter brothers in love with the same girl, there is explanation for their rancour.
Sirpy's music complements the typical story. Cinematography, editing and other departments blend well, but fail to deliver a sensational film.
