Manisha Koirala
Manisha is outraged!
A big war erupts over Ek Chhotisi Love Story

Bharati Dubey

Manisha Koirala is miffed with director Shashilal Nair (Angaar, Grahan) over a few scenes in their new film Ek Chhotisi Love Story.

Apparently, the actress has reservations about certain scenes and had a verbal spat with the director regarding their inclusion in the film.

Koirala admits, "Yes, we fought over some scenes in the film. Frankly, I did this film for Shashilal Nair, who is like a friend to me. I have not charged a single penny for it because after Grahan, he did not have much work. And I kept suggesting Shashi's name whenever anyone approached me saying they wanted to produce the film."

The actress agreed to work in this film after she heard Nair's script. "I thought he was attempting to make a different kind of cinema. The problem was with a couple of scenes. He came to me with the storyboard. There were sketches in it which were unthinkable for anybody to do. I don't think they do this in Hollywood either. He asked me if he could shoot the scene with a body double. And if I didn't like it he would remove it.

"I told him I would allow it only on the condition that he (Nair) gave it to me in writing. And since it was embarassing for me, I asked my secretary to insist on the letter. Shashi agreed. All I knew was I was helping a friend. But after seeing the film twice, the scenes are extremely objectionable. They are not in good taste, and people can make out that it is not my body. I asked him to remove that portion. If he does not do so, I will go to the Cine Artistes Association (CAA)."

Koirala explains that Ek Chhotisi Love Story deals with a 14-year-old's crush on a older woman.

Aditya Seal plays the adolescent boy in the film, who daydreams about Manisha Koirala. Channel [V] veejay Ranvir Shourie makes his big screen debut as Koirala's boyfriend in the film.

Not many also know that Shashilal Nair has planned a poster exhibition just before the release of the film. Nair discloses that this unusual poster exhibtion has been created by art student Sanjay Gavande. The exhibition is expected to unveil the theme behind Ek Chhotisi Love Story.
