Four trains would be operated from Madurai, and one from Coimbatore, he said flagging off the 'Village on Wheels' train, which would travel for 16 days and visit places like Kasi, Gaya and Haridwar.
He said the objective behind introducing the train was to help common man visit important religious, cultural and historical places at affordable cost and also promote tourism.
The IRCTC was also planning to tie-up with the nationalised banks to enable tourists avail of bank loan for package tour, costing from Rs 3500 to 8000 per head.
The minister said the train would also touch Allahabad, Hrishikesh, Manali, Amritsar, Delhi, Mathura and Agra.
