After swinging between a high of 10,924 and a low of 10,793, the Sensex finally ended on a flat note at 10,841.
Hopes of further hike in steel prices amid firm steel prices led to a fresh rally among steel stocks. SAIL soared over 7% to Rs 73. Tata Steel surged 3.4% to Rs 485. Essar Steel, Jindal Steel and Maharashtra Seamless gained over 3% each.
Non-ferrous metals like aluminium and copper stocks, too, joined in the rally. Gujarat NRE Coke zoomed nearly 8% to Rs 99.35. Hindalco, National Aluminium and Sterlite also finished with smart gains today.
SBI advanced 2.8% to Rs 975 after the Union Cabinet approved a proposal for stock split of its subsidiaries. Following which, the three listed subsidiaries of SBI hit their respective upper limtis today. State Bank of Mysore hit the 20% upper limit at Rs 5,481. State Bank of Bikaner and State Bank of Travancore hit their respective 5% upper circuits at Rs 3,691 and Rs 3,654,
