Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd will commission 400,000 Global System for Mobile-based lines, each for Delhi and Mumbai, by October 15.
The company had earlier announced that the additional capacities would be commisioneed by October 2. "We have test launched these services. By October 15, we will be able to open these lines for commercial use," AK Girotra, executive director, MTNL, told Business Standard.
He also said that Motorola had been awarded the contract to provide equipment and network solution for these GSM lines. At present, MTNL has a capacity of 225,000 GSM lines each in Delhi and Mumbai.
The company has been unable to add new subscribers with hardly any capacity left in its network.
