Close on the heels of Dell announcing a six per cent cut in its desktop and notebook prices, IT major Hewlett Packard India on Thursday slashed notebook prices by up to six per cent across all categories.
The price drop will vary from three to six per cent across various models of HP notebook computers, HP India vice-president Ravi Swaminathan said in a statement, adding the move is to pass on the benefit of duty cuts announced in the Budget on computers to the consumers.
However, this price cut is only limited to the notebook market and does not reflect HP's plans for the overall PC market, he said.
"We expect the Budget announcement to further accelerate the growth in this market," he said, adding the notebook market is expanding rapidly with an annual growth of around 80 per cent.
"The decision (to cut cost) would make technology more affordable to the masses," Swaminathan added.
Dell on Wednesday announced a six per cent cut in prices of its desktop systems, notebooks and workstations following removal of excise duty on computers in the Union Budget.
A leading domestic computer manufacturer Zenith Computers also announced a two per cent cut in its PC prices in view of the recent government proposal of zero excise duty on PCs.
