Reforms: FM to seek support of all parties

July 31, 2008 18:34 IST
Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday said he would reach out to all political parties to support bills on economic reforms in Parliament.

"Once the tempers cool down, I am sure that the leadership of parties will prevail upon their members to support key financial bills including insurance, banking regulation and pension bills," he said.

He said currently tempers are running high. His remarks came a few days after leader of the opposition L K Advani's statement that BJP may not support the government in Parliament on financial bills.

The Finance Minister said all those reform measures which do not require parliamentary approval, but just executive order will be carried out.

He said most members of Parliament, barring a section, were in support of reforms bills.
