Indian Railways have earned a record Rs 1,968.78 crore (Rs 19.68 billion) in just 10 days in the ongoing month, which is 8.42 per cent more than the the earnings in the corresponding period last year.
The earnings were registered between September 10 and 20.
The total goods earnings were Rs 1173.93 crore (Rs 11.73 billion) during the period while passenger revenue earnings were Rs 587.58 crore (Rs 5.87 billion).
Earnings from other coaching side amounted to Rs 45.14 crore (Rs 451.4 million), said a release issued by the Railways.
The approximate number of passengers booked during the period 11th to 20th September 2008 was more than 19 crore (Rs 190 million).
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during the period was 11 crore (Rs 110 million) and 8.76 crore (Rs 87.6 million) respectively.
