Tatas to exit Bengal if protests continue

August 29, 2008

Even as the West Bengal government was sending out invitation to Banerjee and her followers to 'discuss the Singur issue', protesters said they don't trust this government and its irrational proposals at all.

"For the past two years, talks have been going on but in vain," said Trinamool leader Madan Mitra.

"This state has a chief minister who can do things as unethical as criticising his own party for calling bandhs. He has no moral right to rule," he added.

"We are being systematically misrepresented by a section of the media for obvious reasons. We have nothing against the Nano factory. We are not here to oppose industrialisation. We are fighting for the farmers' rights. If the state government takes care of their interests, we will end the dharna the very moment."

Biman Bose on his part said the state administration was showing commendable restraint despite provocation. But the situation had changed and a way out had to be found.

Appealing to the TC chief, once more, he said, "she should immediately sit for dialogue with the government and place whatever proposal she had to resolve the stalemate," adding, "we want the Nano to roll out from the state."

Besides Trinamool Congress, several other mass organisations are also protesting the acquisition of the land from farmers.
