With the retail and construction sector expanding their IT infrastructure in the country, the overall revenue of the servers, a data storage device, touched $727 million (about Rs 2,903 crore) in 2007 recording a 24 per cent increase over 2006, a report said."The overall revenue for servers has touched $727 million in 2007. Apart from traditional sectors like telecom, BFSI and manufacturing, 2007 also saw the emergence of retail and construction as key demand drivers," market intelligence firm IDC said in a statement.
A server is a device on a network that manages network resources. A file server is a computer and storage device dedicated to storing files.
"The blade server market continued to be the hot segment for x86 servers during 2007. The market was abuzz with initiatives from vendors like ramping up of their product portfolios and education of customers through events and contact programmes, IDC India assistant manager (enterprise computing products research) Amit Dalal said.
Blade servers are self-contained computer servers, designed for high density. Blade servers have many components removed for space, power and other considerations while still having all the functional components to be considered a computer.
