Threatening to go on strike for three days from March 28 followed by indenifite strike from May, public sector bank employees organised a march to Parliament on Monday to press for their pension-related demands among other matters.

Addressing the gathering of workers and officers, at Jantar Mantar near Parliament, union leaders flayed the government and banks management for allegedly imposing a ban on recruitment, compassionate employment and not stopping outsourcing of work.

The leaders of United Forum of Bank Unions said employees should again be given a choice to opt for pension.

Many employees did not join the pension scheme because of earlier stipulation that their years of services would factor in the number of days that they go for a strike.

They alleged that while workload has increased manifold, banks have put a ban on recruitment, leaving more than one lakh vacancies.

This is forcing bank employees to work for extra hours without overtime, they alleged. The leaders also charged the management with stopping compassionate employment, a kind of social security for employees.

They also pressed for stopping outsourcing of work, which the leaders blamed for 'ban' on employment.

The labour commissioner would try to reach a compromise between the management, workers and the government in Mumbai on Wednesday.

If no agreement is reached, employees would strike work on March 28, 29 and 30 and follow it with indefinite strike from May three.
