China's economy has recorded an impressive growth of 11.5 per cent year on year, the government said in Beijing on Thursday.

The growth was 0.5 percentage points higher from the same period last year, latest figures from thellion yuan in the first half of the year.

China's economy grew at the fastest pace in 12 years in the second quarter.

GDP expanded 11.9 per cent from a year earlier, up from 11.1 per cent in the first quarter.

China's fixed assets investment in the first half of this year totalled 5.4168 trillion yuan ($716.5 billion), up 25.9 per cent year on year. The growth is 3.9 percentage points lower than that of the same period of 2006.

China's consumer price index rose sharply to 4.4 per cent in June compared with a year ago, NBS Spokesman, Li Xiaochao said, adding that the rise was mainly due to soaring food prices.
