Setting up of animation parks will help the sector to become a $1-billion business in the next three years and create two lakh additional jobs in the country by then, industry chamber Assocham said.
Building animation parks with hi-tech studios in the country would help the industry to perform all its activities within India thus raising additional revenues, the chamber said.
Animators today are forced to spend their money in the US, Canada, Philippines, China, Korea and Malaysia for making advanced animated movies, Assocham said in a statement.
It said the parks can generate employment opportunities for a minimum of two lakh skilled animators in the next three years as the sector has emerged as a lucrative career option for creative youngsters.
These parks will help Indian animation industry to reach $1 billion by 2010, with a growth of 30 per cent. In 2006, the market size of animation industry was estimated at 360 million dollars, it said.
The chamber would shortly submit a research paper highlighting opportunities in the Indian animation sector to the government, it said.
The research suggests that animation would acquire new dimension among youth in the country and since large number of India's young population is opting for animation it has good potential in future.
Assocham has sought incentives such as a 10-year tax holiday for all corporate houses who set up such parks.
