Here's some good news and some bad for rail passengers. It is likely that second-class rail fares may not be hiked. However, AC travel is likely to be more expensive. The Railway Budget for 2007-08 may leave the second-class train fare unchanged, but upper class AC and freight fares may be hiked, reports say. The railway minister may also introduce dozens of air-conditioned Garib Raths and allow a major role for private players in the modernisation and development of infrastructure for the railways.
