Robust performance of the manufacturing sector pushed up the industrial growth to 11.8 per cent in October as against 4.5 per cent in the same month last year.
While the manufacturing sector grew by 13.3 per cent during the month, the performance of the mining and electricity sectors remained poor at 3.7 per cent and 4.2 per cent respectively, said the Index of Industrial Production released by the government on Wednesday.
During April-October 2007, the IIP went up by 9.7 per cent, but was marginally down from 10.1 per cent recorded in the corresponding period last year.
The manufacturing sector during the seven-month period recorded a growth of 10.4 per cent, while the mining and electricity sectors grew by 4.8 per cent and 7.2 per cent respectively.
