Assam has invited Canadian investment in the tourism sector, especially for developing and harnessing the state's natural beauty.

"The State is looking forward to Canadian investment in tourism, wild life and service sector as the province would soon become exporting hub for neighboring countries," Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said in Toronto on Friday at a meeting organised by the Indian Tourism Development Corporation.

The chief minister, who is in Canada to study the value added tax system, met top officials of Ontario and Edmonton and discussed with them various aspects of the tax. "The idea has been to learn from Canadian experience," he said, adding, "we are impressed."

"Canadian marketing and customer service skills are best in the world and we would like to adopt them," the chief minister said, pointing out, "Canada could help Assam by providing investment in tourism."

Satish Mehta, Consul General of India, also spoke on the occasion. "India now has the right climate for foreign investment and the State should encourage foreign investment in building retirement homes," he said.
