Tata Motors sales up 45% in May

Home grown auto major Tata Motors [Get Quote] on Friday reported a 45 per cent jump in total vehicle sales at 44,357 units in May this year as against 30,593 units in the same month last year.

The company said its domestic passenger vehicles sales, which include that of Indica, Indigo, Suma and Safari, was up 29 per cent at 18,115 units.

Indica registered a growth of 46.3 per cent in May with 12,409 units while the Indigo family registered a decline of 6.2 per cent in sales at 2,844 units. The Sumo and Safari accounted for sales of 2,862 units, a growth of 15 per cent over May 2005.

On the commercial vehicles front, the company registered a massive 64 per cent jump in domestic sales in May at 21,903 units as against 13,338 units in the same month a year ago.

Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales stood at 12,682 units, a growth of 55 per cent over May 2005, while light commercial vehicle sales stood at 9,221 units, a growth of 79 per cent over May 2005, the company said.

Tata Motors' exports increased by 33 per cent at 4,339 units in May as compared to 3,251 units the same month last year.

The company said its cumulative total sales for the current fiscal (April-May preiod) stood at 80,931 units, up 49 per cent as against the corresponding period the last fiscal.
