The Nandurbar collector has issued a show cause notice to Venkateshwara Hatcheries, India's largest hatchery, seeking an explanation as to why action should not be taken against them for allegedly supplying bird flu affected chickens to two poultries in Navapur.

"The notice has been served under Section 188 of IPC for the disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servant, and Section 139 of Bombay Police Act for contravention of Section 43 which enables a District Magistrate to take specific measures to prevent outbreak of epidemic disease," A Gaikwad, Nandurbar Collector said in statement.

However, O P Singh, CO of Venkateshwara Hatcheries, said the company has not received any notice so far and would comment only after receiving it.
