An industry-friendly regulatory mechanism for biotech sector would be put in place by November, Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for Science and Technology, said.

In his keynote address at Biotech CEO summit organised by BioSpectrum in Hyderabad, Sibal said as suggested by Mashelkar Committe among other things, a single window clearance would be offered for biotech companies.

"To cross $5 billion mark by 2010, the government is proactive. We are working on a legislation on safeguarding and distributing intellectual property on innovations in joint R&D projects by academic institutions and industry," Sibal said.
