"We are reformulating the scheme and IL&FS is likely to be entrusted with the task of developing the parks," Textiles Secretary R Poornalingam said.
Barring the Tirupur Apparel Park, which has come up in record time, none of the other eight have taken off, forcing the government to rework the scheme.
The Tirupur Park, housing 300 units, exports Rs 1500 crore (Rs 15 billion) worth of knitwear, he said adding the Centre had proposed to set up 25 such parks to generate exports worth Rs 37,000 crore (Rs 370 billion) in the next 2-3 years.
He said the government is now contemplating setting up 'Textiles' parks instead of separate apparel and weaving parks and a proposal in this regard will soon go to the Cabinet for approval.
IL&FS is likely to develop these parks and market them to textiles units. Each of these parks would have 300 units and provide employment to 15,000-20,000 workers.
