Accenture's $200,000 grant for kids

Global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, Accenture has announced a grant of $200,000 to an organisation working for the under-privileged children in developing nations, including India, Nepal, Cambodia and Vietman. Accenture, in addition to the financial grant to 'Room to Read', an organisation providing educational opportunities to underprivileged children in developing countries will also provide strategic counsel in different business-related areas. The grant to be disbursed over one year will enable the expansion of the 'Room to Read' programme in India and establishment of first 40 libraries in the country giving 20,000 children their first access to libraries, including one in Uttaranchal. It would also lead to implementation of the 'Room to Grow Girls' support programme in Uttaranchal by providing 50 girls with the security and support system they need to attend and complete secondary school. In addition to school fees, the programme provides girls with school uniforms, books, stationery, backpacks, transportation, medical check-ups and the support of a social worker who understands the cultural and community pressures on young girls. The company said the grant would also enable the expansion of existing programmes, including the life skills programme in South East Asia to include four language labs and three computer labs, benefiting 3,000 children in Vietnam and Cambodia.
