India and the United Kingdom on Monday expressed keenness to boost bilateral trade and emphasised on the need to end the World Trade Organisation stalemate.

The Indo-UK bilateral trade, which stands at $5 billion, has immense potential to grow as the UK happens to be India's second-largest trading partner, visiting British Trade Minister Mike O'Brien said after meeting his Indian counterpart Arun Jaitley.

Both the ministers expressed disappointment at the current stalemate in the negotiations while exchanging views on developments after the Cancun Ministerial Conference, an official release said in New Delhi.

On the bilateral front, the UK raised the issue of high tariffs on scotch whisky and asked India to abolish additional duties on spirits and wines, while India drew the attention towards substantial reduction in tariff levels.
