Ambani to set up sports scholarship

Various corporate houses and private banks, including Aditya Birla Group, Hindustan Lever, Sahara Group, Bank of America, ANZ Grindlays, ICICI Bank, ABN Amro and HSBC have contributed about Rs 30 lakh (Rs 3 million) to Reliance Group's Anil Ambani's proposed sports scholarship fund.

Sources close to Ambani, who is participating in the Mumbai marathan on Sunday, said more than a dozen corporate organisations have pledged close to Rs 30 lakh for the purpose.

In addition to corporate houses, Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan and Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh have also made contributions to the fund.

The Mumbai marathan is being sponsored mainly by Standard Chartered Bank.

The amount collected would be used for setting up an appropriate sports scholarship.

Other corporate houses, which contributed money are Godrej and Intercontinental Hotels.
