Tommy Hilfiger coming to India

Popular clothing label, Tommy Hilfiger will soon be available in India, courtesy Arvind Brands.

Tommy Hilfiger will be brought to India through a joint venture between the Murjani Group and the Lalbhai Group, which owns the 'Arvind' brand.

Called Arvind Murjani Brands Private Limited, the joint venture has entered into a licensing agreement for marketing and distribution of Tommy Hilfiger apparel in India.

AMB will introduce the Tommy Hilfiger men's sportswear, men's jeanswear and juniors' jeanswear collections in freestanding speciality stores across country in spring 2004.

"This agreement is part of our commitment towards offering the complete Tommy Hilfiger lifestyle to the Indian consumer and I look forward to making our products available in this dynamic marketplace," said Tommy Hilfiger, Honorary Chairman and Principal Designer of Tommy Hilfiger Corporation.

Darshan Mehta, President, Arvind Brands Ltd, said, "Launching Tommy in India goes to prove our group's continued commitment to further develop the Indian market and meet the evolving needs of the urban Indian consumer."

The Murjani Group, based in New York, was founded in 1930 by B K Murjani. By 1958, with production of over 10 million units per annum, Murjani's became one of the largest apparel producers in the world.

In early the 1970s, Murjani pioneered the move into brand name development and marketing. Over the years, the group has developed and launched various major global brands, such as Gloria Vanderbilt, Coca-Cola Clothes and Tommy Hilfiger.

Arvind Brands Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lalbhai Group flagship Arvind Mills Ltd based in Ahmedabad, was established in the year 1993 with the launch of Arrow.

Arvind Brands is one of the largest branded apparel manufacturing and marketing company in India. The company brings to the Indian consumer a host of International and national brands -- ranging from the super premium to the mass market.

Tommy Hilfiger Inc., through its subsidiaries, designs, sources and markets men's and women's sportswear, jeanswear and childrenswear under the Tommy Hilfiger trademarks.

Its products can be found in leading department and speciality stores throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico, Central and South America, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, and other countries in the Far East.
