December 03, 2004 19:17 IST

Asahi India Glass on Friday announced the setting up of its single largest integrated glass plant at Roorkee in Uttaranchal with an estimated investment of Rs 600 crore (Rs 6 billion).

The plant to be set up by 2006 end, would help Asahi "consolidate its position as the country's largest integrated glass company," an Asahi release said.

"This plant will cater to the growing demand for value added and processed glass and glass products. We shall establish our presence at key locations of the country to take advantage of the rapidly increasing demand for our products and services," managing director and CEO of AIS, Sanjay Labroo said.

The integrated, composite plant with manufacturing facilities for value-added glass and glass products would have a capacity of 700 million tonne per day.

The investment for the project was in-principle approved by the AIS board of directors at a meeting held in New Delhi on Friday.
