Reliance Life Science, the Ambani-promoted biotechnology company, has floated a new company Reliance Clinical Research Services, to provide contract clinical research services to global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and medical institutions worldwide.

The new entity will also make available its research facilities to doctors across the globe, apart from doing clinical work for Reliance Life Science.

The new company is one more step on the road towards transforming the Reliance group from being a group that focuses on manufacturing to a group that focuses on services.

"RLS is not just an initiative. It is an incubator for innovation -- innovation in regenerative medicine for good health and well-being. RLS is an inspiration configured at the frontiers of science," said Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries.

The group's technology arm Reliance Infocomm will provide back-end support to the new company with its fibre network. So the Reliance Infocomm server will be used to support Reliance Clinical's medical data and document management.

Reliance Clinical will provide services in the areas of project management, clinical operations, biometrics, regulatory affairs, document management, quality assurance, training, medical writing, pharmacovigilance, medical consultancy and laboratory services.

Besides clinical research, Reliance Clinical will also identify and train research-driven doctors in the country for effective healthcare delivery.

Reliance executives said the group was investing heavily in biotechnology and that this was one of the largest investments in India in biotechnology. Along with its parent RLS, Reliance Clinical will offer end-to-end services, ranging from research to healthcare services.
