ICICI Bank opens Shanghai office

ICICI Bank said on Tuesday it has opened a representative office in Shanghai, China, its third overseas office after New York and Dubai.

The bank's CEO K V Kamath inaugurated the office, which is expected to facilitate growth in India-China economic relations, an ICICI Bank release said.

The Shanghai office would provide home and host country links to the domestic companies having business relations in the region as well as increase its participation in India's trade transactions with China, joint managing director Lalita Gupte was quoted saying.

The country's largest private sector bank has also received approval for opening a wholly owned subsidiary in Canada, the release added.

Joint general manager Arnab Basu has been appointed as the country head for the China operations.

The bank had recently inaugurated its overseas offshore branch in Singapore and an offshore banking unit at SEEPZ, Mumbai.

It has a wholly owned subsidiary in London and a representative office in New York and Dubai.
