Jet plans 17 flights a week to Sri Lanka

November 25, 2003 18:39 IST

Jet Airways is planning to start 17 flights a week from India to Sri Lanka, as and when the government grants permission.

"We are planning daily flights from Chennai and five flights each from Mumbai and Bangalore once the government approves the flights under the open skies policy," Jet CEO Wolfgan Prock-Schauer said at the sidelines of the launch of a silver credit card with Citibank, in Mumbai.

While flights from Chennai and Bangalore would be operated during the day, flights from Mumbai would be in the evening, he said, adding: "We are ready with our arrangements with aircraft rescheduling."

Asked if there would be induction of additional aircraft into the Boeing fleet, Prock-Schauer said, "As of now it is not necessary. In case we do fly to some other destinations, then, we will have to look into it."

He said Jet has temporarily put on hold its decision to go in for the Brazilian Embraer jet aircraft till the "market situation improves."

Jet had suffered a loss of Rs 245 crore (Rs 2.45 billion) in 2002-03 but there are "some signs that traffic is picking up," he said, adding, "We intend to carry seven million passengers this fiscal as against 6.6 million in 2002-03."
