Ketan Parekh's bail plea rejected

March 13, 2003 19:51 IST

Stock broker Ketan Parekh, arrested in connection with Rs 120 crore (Rs 1.2 billion) scam at Calcutta Stock Exchange, has filed a special leave petition with Supreme Court for bail, his lawyers said on Thursday.

The SLP of Parekh, who was arrested on January 20 after he surrendered before a Kolkata court as per order of Mumbai High Court, will come up for hearing on March 24.

Meanwhile, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S C Misra on Thursday rejected the former big bull's bail petition and extended his judicial custody till March 27.

Parekh had earlier moved Calcutta high court for bail, which was rejected on grounds that 'extent and nature of the allegation was too serious'.
