State-owned Gas Authority of India Ltd has discovered oil and gas near Ahmedabad, in an onshore block awarded under the exploration policy.

GAIL, along with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation, has discovered oil and gas reserves near Ahmedabad, Union Petroleum Minister Ram Naik said while addressing the gas operations and maintenance conference in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Naik, however, did not elaborate on the volume of the discovery.

GAIL Chairman and Managing Director P Banerjee said the discovery was made last week and currently the production tests are on.

This block was awarded under the second round of new exploration and licensing policy, he added.
