CII team to visit China to promote trade ties

June 13, 2003 18:27 IST

Coinciding with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's visit to China from June 22, CII president Anand Mahindra will lead a 30-member delegation to the country to promote bilateral trade ties.

The Confederation of India Industry will open its 13th overseas office in Shanghai on June 26.

The delegation would interact with business houses in Beijing and Shanghai as part of CII's efforts to promote economic and commercial cooperation with China, a CII release said in New on Friday.

As part of the five-point agenda developed by CII to broaden bilateral economic relations and work towards achieving the trade target of $10 billion, a CII office would be established in Shanghai which would serve as a reference point for business communities of both countries.

An 'India Club' would be launched in China to boost SME cooperation and a comprehensive India and China business website would be developed for greater contact between business peoples.

CII would also host 'Made in India' and 'Hi Tech' shows in China in October this year.

A joint Sino-Indian CEOs' forum would be set up which would meet on an annual basis to discuss trade issues.

The delegation would include CEOs of key companies with stakes or interests in the Chinese market, including Mahindra & Mahindra, Hero Corporate Services, Eicher, Ranbaxy, Orchid Chemicals, Tata International, and ICICI Bank.
