July 16, 2003 17:25 IST

Ford India on Wednesday launched Ford Ikon NXT SXi, yet another variant of its successful midsize Ikon brand of passenger car, with more stylish features and enhanced value proposition.

Equipped with two power train options of 1.6 petrol and 1.8 diesel engines, the SXi model comes with several enhanced features like 14-inch alloy steel wheel, chrome grill, chrome deck lid handle and monochromatic sporty front bumper with round fog lamps, David Friedman, managing director and president, Ford India said in Chennai.

Priced at Rs 647,000 and Rs 704,000 for the petrol and diesel versions, respectively, in Chennai, the new variant would be available across the country at 48 Ford dealer outlets in 68 cities.

"About 90 per cent indigenisation, mainly in respect of engine and gearboxes, has helped us to position this luxury car at affordable price levels," he said.

The company had exported 77,000 units of Ikon so far, he said, adding that up to June last the exports stood at 14,500 units.
