After providing a series of services to its mobile phone users during the past few days, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd is now working to come up with a range of facilities for its fixed line users.

BSNL chairman and managing director Prithipal Singh on Monday said the company was working on a series of 'attractive' alternate packages that would be offered to fixed line customers soon.

"Our fixed line customers are feeling neglected after a series of sops announced for mobile phone users in the recent past and so we are going to come up with many facilities for fixed customers soon so that they don't feel neglected," Singh said while announcing 'Account-Free Internet' and two other facilities to its Calcutta Telephones subsribers.

"We are working on alternative packages apart from those already recommended by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, he said.

Singh said BSNL plans to approach Trai for sanction of the packages by March and implementation will start as soon as they get the approval.

"There are number of things which are being worked out for our 3.5 crore fixed lines users so that they don't get neglected, but I cannot elaborate as it was yet to be approved by Trai," Singh said.

Asked if he saw further downward correction in mobile phone rates, he CMD said, "I don't believe in tariff war. As there is a limit to cost, we cannot go on reducing prices. People should realise that facilities will not come free of cost and a telephone culture should come in the country."
