Toyota launches Corolla in three variants

February 03, 2003 19:49 IST

Toyota Kirloskar Motor launched the Toyota Corolla on Sunday. The company expects to sell around 10,000 units in the first year itself.

With an indigenous content of up to 55 per cent, the new luxury sedan has been adapted to Indian conditions and is available in three variants, Toyota Motor Corporation Director Yoshio Shirai said at the launch on Sunday night.

The Japanese company has sold more than 30 million units in 142 countries worldwide and the ninth generation Corolla is being manufactured at its Bidadi plant in Karnataka.

The ex-Mumbai showroom price for the 1.8J model is Rs 9.74 lakh (Rs 974,000), Rs 10.74 lakh (Rs 1.074 million) for 1.8E, and Rs 11.44 lakh (Rs 1.144 million) and Rs 11.94 lakh (Rs 1.194 million) for 1.8G.

The company has so far sold 75,000 Toyota Qualis, its multipurpose vehicle, since January 2000, while the Camry, available via the CBU (completely built unit) route has notched sales of around 350 units since its launch a few months ago.
