Thomas Cook, Galileo launch e-ticketing

BS Corporate Bureau in Mumbai | August 11, 2003 11:07 IST

Galileo India, the global distribution services provider for the travel industry, and Thomas Cook India on Sunday announced the introduction of electronic ticketing for air travel in India.

While e-ticketing would be restricted to international travel initially, it is expected to be introduced in the domestic sector soon.

With e-ticketing, passengers can now get an air-ticket booking confirmation by e-mail, fax or any such means.

This plain paper document will have a reference number of the passenger's reservation along with the itinerary.

All one has to do is to present this reference number at the airport along with a proof of identity to get the boarding pass.

Ashwini Kakkar, managing director of Thomas Cook India, said, "This is not only a step towards international travel standards but is a major move towards the travel industry's efforts towards cost rationalisation. The process would translate into a cost saving of around $8-10 per ticket."
