Swedish knighthood for ABB India MD

April 03, 2003 19:58 IST

Sweden has conferred the Royal Order of the Pole Star on Ravi Uppal, vice-chairman and managing director of ABB India, in recognition of his contribution to promoting Indo-Swedish relations over many years.

Swedish minister for industry and trade Leif Pagrotsky on Thursday named Uppal 'Knight of this Order' on behalf of the King of Sweden.

Uppal is also the chairperson of the Association of Indo-Swedish Companies for the Southern Region.

Pagrotsky told reporters that the order, being given to people of great merit since the 18th century, also included the industrial trade in the early 1900s.

He said the motto of the order was 'It knows no dissent.'
