Indus Clothing plans to set up Lee Cooper flagship stores
Jyotika J Thukralin New Delhi Indus Clothing Ltd, the license holder for Lee Cooper in India, is expanding its operations through a collaboration with M&B Footwear for setting up Lee Cooper flagship stores in India. The latter is the licensee company with rights to manufacture and market Lee Cooper shoes in India. It plans to set up 10 such stores in the country where the complete brand product line will be displayed which currently includes apparel, accessories and shoes. Gurbir Singh, chief operating officer, Indus Clothing Ltd, said: "These stores are aimed at giving consumers a complete brand experience. If the initial stores pick up well, Lee Cooper watches and sun-glasses too will be launched in India through these flagship stores." To begin with, the company plans to set up three pilot stores, one in Chandigarh and two in Delhi. Lee Cooper recently unveiled nearly 130 new styles and finishes in the market to cash in on the denim resurgence. These include Spice (ultra low waist denims popularised by Britney Spears) and extra flare jeans, sand blasts, dirty retro washes, over dyes among others. The company had also augmented capacity recently by adding 50 new machines with an investment of Rs 20 lakh (Rs 2 million). "This is an on going exercise which we undertake to cope up with growing demand," he said. In addition, Indus Clothing which holds license for the Indian sub-continent has identified a distributor in Bangladesh. "We will initially launch in some multi-brand outlets and depending on the response might then opt for an exclusive outlet at a later stage," he said. Interestingly, M&B Footwear too has tied up with the same distributor so the company might set up an exclusive store in collaboration there. The company claims to have sold half a million garments in a year and is eyeing a 20 per cent growth this year. It spends 7-8 per cent of its turnover on advertising and marketing where the focus is more on print, cinema and outdoor. ALSO READ:
