'We were having unrealistic expectations from the Budget'

Pradeep Dokania

The liquid fund dividend option market will attract tax like any other dividend. So it will attract 31.5 per cent tax for individuals and 36.5 per cent for corporates.

The Budget is okay. Many of us were having unrealistic expectations from the Budget. The governement already has a uncovered gap of 1200 billion and is not in a position to give any more sops to everybody.

I think it is a continuation of simplifing the tax regime and plugging atleast some loop holes. It also atleast initiates some movement towards capital account convertibility for NRIs. In a nutshell, the Budget is not bad, but it does not meet the expectations of all the people.

Pradeep Dokania is executive vice president, DSP Merill Lynch.
