Bharti joins race in STD price war; slashes rates in Haryana

Within a day of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd reducing domestic long distance tariffs by upto 62 per cent, Bharti Group, private basic telecom service provider in Haryana, on Tuesday announced a similar cut in STD rates.

According to the new rates announced by Bharti, STD between 50 to 200-km would now cost Rs 2.40 a minute as against Rs 4.80 earlier during the peak hours and Rs 1.20 during the off-peak hours, a company statement said in New Delhi.

For the second distance slab of 200-500 km, the new rate would be Rs 4.80 per minute compared to Rs 11.60 earlier during the peak hours of 0900 to 2000 IST while during off-peak hours (2000 to 0900 IST) the per minute cost has come down to Rs 2.40 from Rs 3.

For the third distance slab (above 500 kms), the revised rate would be Rs 9 per minute during the peak hours and Rs 4.50 during the off-peak hours.

There would be only three distance slabs compared to earlier four slabs and only two time slabs of peak and off-peak hours.

Commenting on the developments, Sumanjit Chaudhry, CEO of Haryana's basic service (TouchTel), said, "our aim is to provide the subscriber with a world-class quality of service at an affordable price."

Bharti had launched basic services in Haryana on December 26, last year. New rates would be applicable to all subscribers of TouchTel Haryana both for calls made within the network as well as calls made from the TouchTel network to any other network.
