Rail budget not as hard as expected: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday said the Railway Budget was not as hard as expected with only a marginal increase in fares after a gap of almost three years.

"This increase which has taken place after three years has been done only for the sake of improving the safety in the Railways for which Rs 170 billion is being kept aside," party spokesman V K Malhotra told reporters in New Delhi.

He said 17 new trains are proposed to be started and more are in the pipeline which would enhance the comfort of the people using the railways as the main mode of long distance travel in the country.
