Cabinet approves new drugs policy

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a new drugs policy aimed at boosting investment in the sector, a government spokeswoman said.

"The Cabinet today Tuesday) approved the pharmaceutical policy 2002. The main objective of the policy is to strengthen the sector by reducing barriers, and accelerate investment in the sector," the spokeswoman told a news conference.

She said the policy would include criteria to improve the quality of Indian drugs and promote research and development. No further details were immediately available.
