Veteran ad-man Frank Simoes dead

Indian advertising guru Frank Simoes died at a hospital in Mumbai following a cardiac arrest on Sunday afternoon, his family said on Monday.

Simoes, 68, who was credited with creating the slogan "Only Vimal" that launched Reliance Industries on the national stage, had been admitted to Jaslok Hospital last week. He had been suffering from cancer.

He was cremated at the Chandanwadi crematorium late Sunday.

He is survived by his wife and a daughter.

Simoes entered the advertising world after holding jobs elsewhere as a typist, stenographer and others and went on to set up his own shop, Frank Simoes Associates.

The agency wound up when Simoes decided to retire a few years ago.

Among Simoes' memorable campaigns are those for Reliance Industries, Taj and Raymonds.

After retiring from the profession, Simoes took to writing. His best known work is 'Glad Seasons in Goa,' a work on his native Goa.
