Global footwear major Wolverine will launch its Caterpillar range of shoe brand in the domestic market this year.

"We will soon start producing Caterpillar or Cat brand at our outsourcing unit in Chennai. We plan to produce 40,000 pairs of shoes in the first year of operation," Wolverine vice president Dan Tencate told a press conference in New Delhi on Monday.

The company also announced a marketing tie-up with retail major Royal Sporting House to sell high-end Cat range of shoes in India.

Wolverine, the $1 billion US shoe company, holds exclusive global rights for Caterpillar brand, he said and added RSH would market Cat brand in India on its behalf.

Wolverine portfolio of footwear brands includes Merrell, Harley-Davidson and Hush Puppies, apart from the Cat brand.

"We will continue our tie-up with Bata India for selling Hush Puppies range of shoes," Tencate added.

Stating that 30,000 pairs would be produced in India while the rest would be imported, he said "we have set Rs seven crore sales target for the first year".

"We would market Cat shoe range in four metros, Bangalore, Lucknow, Jaipur, Shimla, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Pune initially, RSH general manager Deepak Bhal said.
