Net4India gets licence for Internet telephony

Net4India, a leading Internet solutions and service provider on Tuesday received a licence from the department of telecommunications to offer Internet telephony services in the country.

Customers can visit the website phonewala.com and book on-line the calling cards that offer telephony services.

Net4India also plans to make the calling cards available to customers through a retail network of 10,000 outlets through 300-350 distributors by the third week this month.

The tariff structure has been submitted to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India for approval and it would be announced soon.

''We have also received a number of queries from corporates for 'voice solutions' using voice over Internet protocol technology that will help them reduce long distance call rates.

"We will soon be launching solutions, which will help them in transitioning from existing networks to IP voice networks,'' Net4India CEO Jasjit Sawhney said.

The company has tied up with DeltaThree, a leading provider of hosted IP-based products and services for offering Internet telephony services.

Net4India is an integrated Internet solutions and service company that provides end-to-end services across four categories --Internet access, web presence solutions, web design and consultancy services and networking and communications solutions.

Satyam Infoway, the largest private Internet service provider in the country, had earlier got permission to start net telephony services and plans to offer calls for as less as Rs 5.25 per minute to the United States, United Kingdom and most of the European countries.

With over a 600,000 subscriber base, Sify has bagged the amended licence that permits it to start net telephony, sources said.

The company would soon launch both pre and post-paid cards for its subscribers and announce the tie-ups it has entered into for the purpose.
