Rohini Malkani is Citigroup chief economist for India

Citigroup’s key components Citibank and Salomon Smith Barney on Monday announced the appointment of Rohini Malkani as Chief Economist, covering India and area countries of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

In her new role, Malkani will provide economic research and analysis on India for Citigroup’s client constituencies including the equity, treasury and fixed income clients.

Malkani, a masters degree holder in economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (1993), worked with JP Morgan Chase as Economist for over three years. She has also worked in the research and planning department of the Industrial Development Bank of India.

“We look forward to sharing her insights with our clients, especially as the world focuses more closely on the Indian subcontinent”, says Don Hanna, Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific Economic and Market Analysis for Citigroup, based in Hong Kong.
