'Strategy to boost exports soon'

The government will soon come out with a medium-term strategy to boost exports, currently witnessing a downturn for the last two months in the face of global economic slowdown and US air strikes on Afghanistan.

"Very soon we will come out with a medium term strategy which is being worked out as part of a package of incentives to boost exports", Minister of State for Commerce Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters.

Asked when the strategy would be announced, he declined to specify any definite time frame but said, "it will be announced very soon."

The government has already announced interest rate cut for export credit and improved duty drawback rates to prop up exports, which recorded negative growth in the last two months.

Soon after the announcement of interest rate cut by RBI, Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha had said that the government would come out with more export incentives in consultation with Commerce Minister Murasoli Maran.
